Company Overview

Alice Queen (ASX: AQX) is an Australian listed resources company that has been on the ASX since September 2004 and is led by Managing Director Andrew Buxton. It explores for gold and copper-gold deposits across Queensland, New South Wales, and Fiji, with its attention increasingly centred on moving its most advanced asset from exploration toward development. The company is majority owned by Gage Resource Development, a subsidiary of Beijing Gage Capital Management, which holds 51%.

Business Segments & Field of Activity

Alice Queen operates in two main areas:

Gold Development and Exploration: advancing its most advanced project through drilling, resource growth, and development studies
Gold and Copper-Gold Exploration: earlier-stage projects in Fiji and the Lachlan Fold Belt of New South Wales, including porphyry and epithermal targets

Its key projects include:

1. Horn Island Gold Project: Torres Strait, Far North Queensland. JORC 2012 Mineral Resource of 21.1 million tonnes at 0.84 g/t gold for 569,000 ounces, plus a conceptual Exploration Target of 1.53 to 2.29 million ounces, held through Kauraru Gold, a joint venture with the Kaurareg Aboriginal Land Trust

2. Sabeto Project: Fiji. A drill-ready conceptual target for an alkaline subvolcanic breccia-hosted gold and copper deposit, with the Viani high-grade epithermal gold prospect and the Nabila licence pending renewal

3. Boda East Project: Lachlan Fold Belt, New South Wales. A copper-gold porphyry project adjacent to Alkane Resources' Boda Project

4. Mendooran Project: Lachlan Fold Belt, New South Wales. A second copper-gold porphyry project

From Resource to Development Pathway

Alice Queen has been concentrating its efforts on Horn Island, selling a non-core New South Wales licence and directing the proceeds and added focus toward the project, which management describes as the most compelling opportunity in its portfolio. In June the company released a Project Definition Study, a scoping-level assessment that outlines a possible operation producing about 466,000 ounces over 11 years, with more than 50,000 ounces a year in the first seven. It has also appointed GBA Capital to lead the project finance process. A drilling program of up to about 5,000 metres began in August to expand the resource, improve confidence in grade, test satellite targets, and assess near-surface stockpiles as a possible lower-cost path to development.

What the Project Definition Study Shows

The study estimates a pre-tax net present value of $706 million and $473 million after tax, with an after-tax internal rate of return of 79%. It assumes a gold price of $6,000 per ounce, against an estimated all-in sustaining cost of $2,971 per ounce and a break-even gold price of $3,709 per ounce. Upfront capital is estimated at $126 million including contingency. As a scoping study, the figures are early-stage estimates, and the company notes there is no certainty that the outcomes will be realised.

Stage 1 Drilling Puts Assays in Focus

Alice Queen shares rose 16.7% to $0.007 on volume of about 2.07 million, roughly 1.7 times the average. The move followed the 13 October update that Stage 1 reverse circulation drilling is complete, with all 20 holes (4,157 metres) intersecting quartz veining, alteration, and sulphide mineralisation. The company also reported visible gold grains in a sample from one hole near the existing resource, and 14 holes tested ground outside the resource, including step-outs up to about 600 metres to the northwest. These are early observations rather than grades, and about 3,708 samples have been sent to the laboratory. First gold assays are expected in about two weeks, with remaining results over the following four to eight weeks, which makes the assay release the next key event.

Risks Behind the Move

Alice Queen remains an exploration-stage company, and its share price is closely tied to drilling results. Pending assays could confirm or disappoint, and the company notes that average sample recovery in Stage 1 was about 71%, with some poor-recovery intervals that may affect reliability. The development case relies on a gold price well above current costs and on upfront capital of $126 million, far larger than the company's market value, so a financing would likely be dilutive. At less than a cent per share, trading can be thin and volatile.

Technical Analysis of Alice Queen (ASX: AQX)

Source: TradingView

On the daily timeframe, AQX remains in a downtrend, with price capped by a descending trendline. The downtrend is still the dominant structure, but the market has recently touched its support zone around $0.006 and reacted, with trading volume picking up noticeably compared with the past few months.

Holding this support keeps the stock from making fresh lows, while a daily close above the descending trendline, currently near $0.008, would be the first sign that selling pressure is easing. A close below support would instead reopen the way for further declines, so the broader outlook stays cautious for now.
